A Suggested Timeline for a Year of Activity for Women in Politics Societies in England

The Women in Politics National Student Conference

This yearly conference brings Women in Politics Societies from across Britain’s Universities together to network, learn, and engage in politics and gender. Because the WIP network spans such a large geographical area, this Conference happens in multiple locations at the same time. So wherever you are based, there will be a Conference happening somewhere near you!

The National Women in Politics Student Conference was held for the first time in November 2025, with 12 WIP Societies and around 300 members in attendance across the regions. In 2025, Edinburgh University hosted for those in Scotland and northern England, and Kings College London hosted for those in Southern England.

Across both locations, there were three panels which were live-streamed to the other region. These panels featured a fantastic line-up of women working in politics, from councillors to those running to be Members of Parliament. Other features of the 2025 National WIP Student Conference included interactive workshops, one of which run by Elect Her, free food and drinks throughout the day, bespoke conference merchandise, and a post-conference networking drinks event.

Northern Conference: Winner of ‘Event of the Year’ at Edinburgh University Student Awards 2025/2026.

Southern Conference: Nominated for ‘Outstanding Activity’ at Birmingham University Guild Awards 2025/2026.

If you’re part of a university that has a Women in Politics Society but unsure whether they are involved in the upcoming Conference, reach out to the organisers to find out!

Start your own Women in Politics Society.

Join the growing community of Women in Politics Societies that are empowering university students to get involved with politics and challenge the status quo. Here are some initial steps you can take to begin your own. Click through at the bottom to access a list of all the current Women in Politics society contact details across Britain!

  • Get together a team of other students committed to help organise. This does not have to be big, but it must be motivated! This will form your committee. Most will have a committee of somewhere between 5-10, however some have more such as St Andrews WIP Society who have 19 hard-working women on their team.

  • Check with your students’ union or association for the timetable of setting up a new society. This can vary depending on where you study, so make this a priority!

  • Get your marketing, logo and name designed and ready to share. As you decide this, make sure there is not already a society at your university with a similar title or logo.

  • Access a list of all the current Women in Politics Societies through the map and button below. This can be useful for inspiration on what direction to take your new society in, and to reach out to for any support you need.
