Join our Team

We’re recruiting three new Directors to join our board, including a Treasurer.

The role of the board

Elect Her is structured as a CIC (Community Interest Company). This means that members of the board are Company Directors, responsible for providing strategic direction and oversight for the organisation, and in setting the direction for future development. The Directors work closely with the Chief Executive and staff team who lead our inspiring work.

The Treasurer would work closely with the Chair and Chief Executive as part of the Finance, Risk and Operations sub-committee, to provide oversight and advice in the preparation of budgets and management accounts, and to ensure that our financial strategy and processes are fit for purpose as we grow and diversify our income.

The expected time commitment is at least 6 days a year for all directors, and 15-20 days a year for the Treasurer.

What are we looking for?

We particularly value candidates who can bring the following attributes:

  • Strategic perception: sensitive to short-term demands and challenges, yet able to set these in the context of broader, long-term trends, and possible future changes;

  • Critical faculty in decision-making: able to challenge assumptions and bring in alternative perspectives, but then ready to make decisions to further the organisation’s vision and mission;

  • Open and collaborative communication: able to listen with curiosity, thoughtfulness and deep respect to a range of different positions and perspectives, open to reconsidering your own assumptions and changing your mind;

  • Learning orientation: able to take calculated risks, and review outcomes in an unfailing constructive and future-focused way, being aware of how our work sits within and necessarily responds to a rapidly changing and often unpredictable political context.

We actively encourage and are keen to receive applications from those with skills and lived experience that are currently under-represented in our team, notably:

  • candidates with networks and/or lived experience of politics in Scotland, Wales, the Midlands and/or the North of England;

  • candidates with lived experience of the intersectional challenges facing women in politics, including women from ethnic minority backgrounds, low-income women, Disabled women, younger women, and those who identify as LGBTQIA+;

  • candidates with understanding of legal and governance requirements related to CICs and other small companies; and/or

  • candidates with understanding and experience of the development and management of earned-income streams in the democracy or related sectors.
