What do girls need to lead?

Collaborating with our partners Sex Ed Matters and Oxford Brookes University this work provides the tools to empower young women by addressing the barriers they face in leadership and providing actionable tools to overcome them.

The Power Players!

To highlight the good work that has, and is, being done we were thrilled to help organise a brilliant roundtable event on Wednesday 21st May at Pearson - huge thanks for all your help!

We were joined by a host of awesome women - young women & girls from two schools Skinners’ Academy, Hackney & The Cooper School, Bicester - also by politicians, educators, advocates and civil society to learn about how we can provide opportunities for girls to develop the experience and knowledge to become our future leaders.

Understanding the Challenges

The research done by Oxford Brookes University highlighted that many girls feel "powerless" to effect change.

This sense of disempowerment stems from systemic issues and a lack of representation in leadership roles. We were able to delve into these findings at the event, which gave us a more detailed overview of their root causes, and the young women also talked about their experiences and the strategies to foster a sense of agency.

Providing the 'Tools for Change'

The campaigning kit developed by Sex Ed Matters is a brilliant resource. The kit provides practical tools and guidance to help girls navigate the challenges of leadership and advocacy. It is intentionally designed to be accessible, free and easy to use for all state schools and is currently being used in at least 40!

And it has already driven change!

Collaborative Efforts for a Brighter Future

The partnership between Elect Her, Sex Ed Matters, and Oxford Brookes University exemplifies the power of collaborative efforts in driving change. By combining research, practical tools, and advocacy, our organisations are working towards creating an environment where girls feel empowered to lead and make a difference.

Looking Ahead

The "Tools For Change: What Girls Need To Lead" event is a step forward in addressing the challenges young women face in leadership. By providing resources, fostering discussions, and building supportive networks.

We firmly believe in collaborative initiatives like this to help pave the way for a more inclusive and empowered future - we are looking forward to the next steps in our partnership!
