Audience:

For women in England who want to be more active in politics but aren’t sure where to start.

At its best, politics is about trying to find the best way for us all to live fair, equal, decent lives and working together to make the world better for everyone.

Of course, in the real world, politics is also about power - who has it, how it’s used, who does not have it and what happens to them. For some people, getting involved in Big P politics is only about getting access to that power for themselves, but for most people, it’s about being able to use that power to help people.

If you have been doing community work of any kind, you’ll have seen the need for improvements, and you’ll have ideas for things which could be done differently. That’s one of the main reasons people end up running for elected office - they have had experiences which give them insight into the systems which govern our lives and they want to make them better.

It might be a disabled woman who has experienced how inaccessible her community is or has had to manage social care which has not been well-provided. It might be a single mother who has seen how easy it was  to fall through the cracks when she needed support. It might be a doctor who has seen the day-to-day consequences of health policy and wants to make changes on a national level instead of trying to fight on an individual one…
