HER LIFE IN POLITICS AS AN MSP

Women make up 51% of the population, yet only 45% of MSPs - and women of colour and those with disabilities are even further underrepresented. We need a broad range of voices in the rooms where decisions are made, so that women’s lived experiences can be heard and taken into account. If you’re motivated to create positive change in Scotland and for your community, join us on Tuesday 25th October to hear how becoming an MSP can help you create tangible change and bring your lived experience to the table.

her life in politics as a MSP Tuesday 25th October 19:30-21:00 Hear from current MSPs as they share the different ways they each entered politics, what life has been like inside the Scottish Parliament so far

Every week in October, we are holding a series of webinars to bring together some of the amazing women elected in all spheres of politics in Scotland. Whether you are thinking about putting yourself forward for election, or you are just dipping your toe in politics, these webinars are for you!

The Scottish Parliament is responsible for a wide range of matters that impact everyday lives, such as education, health and transport, and we need women like you who care and understand their communities representing constituencies and regions to ensure their concerns are taken into account.

Discover what a day in the life of an MSP is like. Join us for this webinar to hear from current MSPs across Scotland about what motivated them to enter politics, how they first got started and what life has been like inside Holyrood, so that you can be better prepared for your political future.

The webinar will be hosted by Maggie McTernan, our fantastic Programme Coordinator for Scotland.

There’s no required qualification or experience to become a MSP, you just need to have lived a life and care. In this webinar, we’ll hear from panellists from a range of life and work experiences who will share how their previous experience has helped them as a MSP.

After this webinar, you will be able to:

  • Know what a day in the life of an MSP is like.

  • Better understand the roles and responsibilities of an MSP.

  • Consider your own motivation to stand for elected office and whether becoming an MSP is right for you.

If you’d like to learn from this webinar but can’t make this time, don’t worry! Register anyway and we’ll send you the recording afterwards.

All women from across Britain are welcome to register for this webinar. Non-binary people whose experiences or identities intersect with women’s and therefore feel they would benefit from accessing a women-centred space are welcome to join us.

Elect Her is committed to hosting inclusive, accessible events that enable all women to engage fully in our conversations. We will make reasonable adjustments throughout the event, so there is universal access. Throughout our programme of support, we anticipate what is needed in advance and respond to needs as they emerge. For instance, we provide AI live captioning for all our online workshops & events, and will provide BSL interpretation for this webinar. If you require any further accommodations to access this event, please email maggie@elect-her.org.uk. Requests must be made at least 2 working days before the scheduled event in order to enable us time to make arrangements.

This webinar is part of a wider series exploring the different roles in politics in Scotland. If you’re still considering which role is right for you in politics, be sure to check out our other webinars, taking place each week in October to get you started, including Her Life in Politics as a Community Councillor on Tuesday 11th October and Her Life in Politics as a Councillor on Tuesday 18th October.
